Mattersburg Quiz (quiz.mattersburg.haus) · Version of 5 November 2026 – this is the version you agree to when signing up. This is a translation; the German version is legally binding.
In short: We store your name, your answers and – only if you want – your memories, so that you can appear on the leaderboard and the museum can learn from the answers. Publicly, only “first name + initial of the last name” is shown. No advertising, no tracking, no cookies. Under “My data” you can download or delete everything at any time.
1. Who is responsible?
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the 70er Haus der
Geschichten in Mattersburg, Austria.
E-mail: office@70haus.at · Phone: +43 699 13691774
You can contact us at this address with any questions about data protection.
2. What is this about?
The quiz is a game about the history of Mattersburg and its main square – and at the same time the museum collects knowledge about the town: whether assumptions about houses, photos and dates are right, how players are connected to the town, and memories you would like to share (oral history).
3. What data do we process – and why?
| First and last name | So you can play and appear on the leaderboard. Publicly, only your first name and the initial of your last name are shown, e.g. “Peter M.”. Only the museum sees your full name. |
|---|---|
| Answers, points, rank | With date and time – for scoring, the leaderboard and to see which questions are hard and which assumptions are right. |
| “About you” (voluntary) | Answers such as “I live in Mattersburg” or “I have known the square since the 1970s”. Others only see them as totals (e.g. “38 % live here”), never with your name. Each of these questions can be skipped. |
| Short answers and memories (voluntary) | What you write or tell, as text – for the museum’s archive. It is shown to others only if you tick the box for this, and only after a check (see 5.). |
| Voice recordings (voluntary) | Only if you tick “The museum may keep my voice recording in its archive”. Without it, the recording is only transcribed and then discarded; only the text is stored. |
| Contact details (voluntary) | E-mail or phone, only if you tick that we may contact you about a memory (e.g. for an interview). Never public. |
| Language and origin | The language you chose and – if you come via the brochure or the screen in the exhibition – this note. We only use it to count how the quiz is found. |
| On your device | A random key so you can continue playing next time, and your language – in the browser’s storage, no cookies. On the screen in the exhibition nothing stays on the device. |
| Technical data | The quiz service uses your IP address only briefly in memory to slow down abuse; it does not store it. The web server logs requests without IP addresses. Error logs may contain them and are deleted after 14 days at the latest. |
No advertising, no analytics or tracking services, no content from third-party servers (fonts and images are on our server).
4. Legal basis
- If you play with your name: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by ticking the box when signing up. You give voluntary information (about you, memories, recordings, contact) separately each time.
- Playing as a guest (without a name) and technical data: our legitimate interest in running the quiz securely and evaluating answers without names (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- The key in the browser storage is strictly necessary for the game you are using (§ 165(3) Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021).
You can withdraw your consent at any time – most easily under “My data” → “Delete everything”. The withdrawal applies to the future; processing up to then remains lawful.
5. What others see and how posts are checked
- Leaderboard: “first name + initial”, rank and points (today, this month, all time).
- Short answers and memories only with your tick “may be shown” and only after a check: the AI model Claude checks whether a text is insulting or contains sensitive information about other people, and picks a short quote. If in doubt, someone from the museum looks at it first. This check only decides whether a text appears publicly – nothing else.
- Every post shown can be hidden immediately with “Report” until we have looked at it.
- Inappropriate names do not appear on the leaderboard.
6. Your memories in the archive
When you send a memory, you allow the museum to keep it free of charge and to use it for exhibitions, publications and the website – with “first name + initial” or without a name. You can withdraw this for the future at any time.
7. From 14 years
You can play with your name, answer “About you” and share memories from the age of 14 (§ 4(4) Austrian Data Protection Act). Younger players play as guests: no name, no leaderboard, only the quiz questions.
8. Who helps us? (processors)
- World4You Internet Services GmbH (Austria) runs the server on which the quiz and the data are stored.
- Anthropic PBC (USA): the AI model Claude checks names and posts before they become public and sometimes asks a follow-up question about your memory. For this it receives the text and the public name (“Peter M.”), and the full name when the name is checked.
- OpenRouter Inc. (USA) forwards voice recordings to Google (Gemini) for transcription – only to providers that neither store the data nor use it for training.
Transfers to the USA are covered by the adequacy decision on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses (Art. 45 and 46 GDPR).
9. How long do we keep data?
- Game data until you delete it. Players who have not played for three years and have no memory taken into the archive are deleted automatically.
- Contact details for two years at most.
- Memories and recordings that the museum has taken into its archive remain part of the collection until you withdraw.
- Web server error logs for 14 days at most.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection and withdrawal of your consent. Under “My data” you can download everything (a JSON file) and delete everything; otherwise an e-mail to office@70haus.at is enough.
If you think we are not processing your data correctly, you can complain to the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde): Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, Austria, dsb.gv.at.
11. Images
The photos come from the archive of the 70er Haus der Geschichten and from mattersburg.haus. The illustrations (start image, chapters, badges) were created with an AI image model.
